There has been much talk lately about distracted driving and in particular the penalties that result from distracted driving. Recently BC’s Attorney General has launched a four week consultation process to determine whether the penalties associated with distracted driving should be raised. Currently the penalty for distracted driving is $167 and 3 penalty points, which is the second lowest in Canada. It is estimated that at any one time there are 9,500 drivers using a hand held electronic device, with 40 percent of those texting or emailing while driving.
